Lennon’s Liverpool home sells for £500,000

The modest Liverpool terrace house in which John Lennon grew up has sold for almost half a million pounds during an auction, more than £300,000 over its market valuation.

An anonymous American Beatles fan paid £480,000 for 9 Newcastle Road, Wavertree, where the singer lived from his birth in 1940.

The guide price had been set at between £150,000 and £250,000.

Andrew Brown, managing director of auctioneer Countrywide Property, said: “There was a lot of interest in the property before the auction from potential buyers who lived in the UK and internationally.

“The auction was very exciting with a number of keen buyers bidding for the property and we are delighted to have sold such an iconic piece of The Beatles and Liverpool’s history.”
