BARCELONA: PC MAKER HP has unveiled the Spectre X2 Pro, the firm’s first detachable two-in-one tablet and ultrabook hybrid for businesses.

Revealing the device at a launch in Barcelona, HP’s SVP for business PCs Enrique Lores said the HP Spectre X2 Pro will help those workers who aren’t provided with separate tablets and PCs, and could hepl eliminate the need for employees to bring their own devices to the office.

“We are introducing a new form factor for the enterprise, the HP Spectre X2 Pro, which introduces for the first time a detachable device for the enterprise, working as a PC or a tablet,” Lores said.

“So for lawyers in the UK – they can work in the office with the equipment, they can take the tablet to court and they will have access to all the information on the tablet.”

Lores added that the HP Spectre X2 Pro also offers the flexibility and mobility of a two-in-one design, with easy movement from ultrabook to tablet with a mechanical hinge. It also has batteries in both the tablet and the keyboard for added power.

The HP Spectre X2 Pro’s chassis is made of aluminium and features HP’s Coolsense technology, which allows it to adjust its temperature based on usage and conditions.

On the inside, the Spectre X2 Pro will be powered by Intel’s latest fourth generation Haswell Core i3 or Core i5 processors, with no mention of the more powerful Core i7 chips. There will be an SSD drive for internal storage on the fly.

The Spectre X2 Pro will be available in Europe sometime in November, at a guide price of €999.

The firm also unveiled the Elitebook 800 series of ultrabooks for businesses, which bring a couple of design features that we haven’t seen before from HP. The first is a tough chassis, which HP claims has passed nine military grade durability tests, so it can withstand a few knocks.

Lores said the Elitebook 800 is “not only 40 percent thinner and 28 percent lighter” than the firm’s last flagship business notebook it replaces – the 8000 series – but one of the key innovations is its resistance against pressure, humidity, temperature, drop impacts, physical shock, dust and moisture. µ
