Asus unveils Padfone Infinity refresh with Snapdragon 800 chip

TAIWANESE HARDWARE MAKER Asus unveiled a Padfone Infinity refresh in Taipei on Tursday, complete with a quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor.

We knew that a new Asus Padfone Infinity was set to be revealed today, and now we know the full story on the updated smartphone/tablet hybrid.

Unfortunately, there’s not that much of an upgrade to the specifications, although Asus has upped the processor to a quad-core 2.2GHz Snapdragon 800 chip and bumped the mobile operating system to Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, according to VR Zone. The new Padfone Infinity will also be available with 32GB or 64GB internal storage, compared to the 16GB and 32GB versions offered previously, and it also improves on its predecessor with a microSD card slot.

Beyond that, there’s not much to report. The ‘fone’ part of the Padfone Infinity features the same 5in 1920×1080 screen as the previous model, as well as the same 2,400mAh battery, 2MP front-facing camera and 13MP f/2.0 rear camera. Unlike it did with the original Padfone, Asus has kitted out this snapper with its new Pixelmaster technology, which is similar to the Ultrapixel technology found on the HTC One that enhances images by squeezing them into a 3MP photo.

There’s also 4G LTE onboard with support for UK 4G bands, and the device will be available in Titanium Black and Platinum White.

There’s no word on availability outside of Taiwan yet, but we’ve contacted Asus for more information. µ
