THE LONG AWAITED Apple iWatch could cost “several thousand dollars” if and when it goes on sale later this year, KGI Securities analyst Ming Chi Kuo has claimed.
Speaking to Macrumours, Kuo claimed that the iWatch will be available in multiple versions, at multiple price points. Koh said he thinks that the most premium of Apple’s wearable lineup could go on sale for “several thousand dollars”.
“Fashion is the name of the game; most expensive model likely priced at several thousand US dollars,” Kuo said. “Referring to the rules of the fashion market, we predict the iWatch casing and band will come in various materials. The most expensive model of the iWatch line will carry a price tag of several thousand US dollars.”
Of course, this is nothing but speculation, and we’re finding it hard to get on board with Koh’s prediction. Samsung’s Gear smartwatches, for example, are available from £200, and LG revealed earlier this week that its debut wearable, the Android Wear-powered LG G Watch, will go on sale priced at £180.
While we’d take Koh’s price predictions with a pinch of salt, that’s not all he had to say about the so-called iWatch. It apparently will be made available in two sizes, 1.3in and 1.5in, and will feature a “slim, light design”.
“We are confident on Apple’s ability to make wearable devices with good fashion sense, which sets Apple apart from rivals,” Koh said.
Koh also predicted that the iWatch will feature NFC, deep integration with iOS and Mac OS X devices, and a battery between “200 and 250mAh”, which likely will “outperform” other smartwatch batteries available.
Keen to make headlines, Koh also said that he expects Apple to also release the iPad Air 2, a large-screened iPhone and a 12in Macbook this year. µ
