GADGET DESIGNER Apple has admitted that some iPhone 5S models are suffering from battery problems and has pledged to replace those affected.
Some early adopters of Apple’s flagship iPhone 5S smartphone have been moaning about battery issues, claiming that despite a promise of longer battery life, their iPhone 5S handsets have been draining batteries quicker than ever.
It’s unclear how badly the phone’s battery life is affected by the problem, but some users have reported at Apple’s Support Forums that their iPhone 5S struggles to make it through three hours, with others reporting that the battery is sinking by around 20 percent every hour.
According to Apples claims, the iPhone 5S should last 25 percent longer than previous iPhones, claiming it can last for up to 250 hours on standby, ten hours of calls or video, or 40 hours of listening to music
An Apple spokeswoman confessed that there’s an iPhone 5S battery problem in a statement to the New York Times. She said, “We recently discovered a manufacturing issue affecting a very limited number of iPhone 5S devices that could cause the battery to take longer to charge or result in reduced battery life.
“We are reaching out to customers with affected phones and will provide them with a replacement phone.”
Apple did not say how many iPhone 5S handsets are affected by the manufacturing glitch, but the New York Times reported that it’s only “a few thousand” devices.
This isn’t the only problem that the iPhone 5S has seen since its launch. Since it went on sale, hackers claimed to have cracked the handset’s Touch ID fingerprint sensor, while other users have complained about iMessage, accelerometer and random restart bugs. µ
